From May 29th to September 1st, 2024 Accelerate carried out an open online consultation to gather perspectives on Canada’s emerging zero-emission vehicle industry. Through a set of questions related to all facets of the ZEV supply chain we asked industry leaders for ideas on the strategies that will get more Canadian content into the electric vehicles built and sold in North America. We received over 60 responses from business leaders, union representatives, researchers, representatives from Indigenous organizations, investors, policymakers, and others wishing to share their views. We have distilled what we heard into the following report, titled “A ‘Candian Content’ Approach to building a North American Electric Vehicle Supply Chian”. An executive summary of this report, found here, was used to lead discussion at Accelerate’s ZEV Industry Leaders’ Workshop, held in October 2024. The workshop report can be found here. As Canada’s emerging ZEV industries, and the Canadian economy as a whole, face an unprecedented threat from instability in the North America free trade zone, it is essential that Canada look at the strategies that will build out Canadian capacity to meet our own industrial development goals. These reports, along with our 2023 report “Seizing Canada’s Opportunity” provide the initial strategic orientations that will lead Canada to becoming a ZEV production superpower.
